Peak shaving & peak lopping with generators and BESS
Ride through your most expensive half-hours with synchronised generator and battery schemes — engineered on Deep Sea Electronics and ComAp, with the grid interface handled in-house.
The peak problem
Most industrial sites don't pay for average demand — they pay for peaks. Maximum import capacity, red-band charges, the increment you breach for twenty minutes a day. Trimming those peaks with on-site assets is one of the few energy investments that pays back on tariff structure alone.
Shaving, lopping, standby — three different schemes
The words get used interchangeably; the engineering isn't:
- —Standby — generation carries the site only when the mains fails. Break-before-make transfer, no parallel running.
- —Peak lopping — generators synchronise and run alongside the grid for sustained periods, carrying part of the load through expensive windows — engineered with G99 protection.
- —Peak shaving with BESS — a battery charges in cheap periods and discharges into peaks, alone or coordinated with generators.
Built on controllers the industry trusts
ENICO builds synchronous generator schemes on Deep Sea Electronics and ComAp controllers — synchronising, load-sharing and load-management schemes with remote start, engineered into tested switchgear rather than bolted on afterwards.
Because the G99 protection side is designed in the same workshop as the switching, the scheme arrives as one job: panel, protection, paperwork.
Where the battery fits
BESS earns its keep fastest when it's coordinated — charging against the export limit, discharging against the peaks, and leaving the generator to catch what the battery can't. That coordination is control engineering, not an inverter setting, and it's exactly the kind of panel we build.
Living with an export limit
Grid-parallel generation and G100 export limitation have to be designed together — a peak-lopping set that trips the export limit is a scheme at war with itself. Where a site carries both, we engineer them as one system with one measurement point of truth.
Monitoring & verification
Peak schemes only pay if they actually catch the peaks. The Plantstream monitoring platform gives you the evidence — demand, dispatch and savings visible per half-hour — so the scheme's performance is a fact, not a feeling.
